Ohio Ministries at Work

2016 March Newsletter
March Greetings from State Pastor Dr. Esther Cottrell!
New Ohio Ministries Associate State Pastor

With joy and excitement, Ohio Ministries welcomes our new Associate State Pastor for Church Health, Rev. Demetrius Booker. Demetrius may be a new name for many of you, but he is one that has been found to be a powerful servant of the Lord throughout his ministry.

After Demetrius graduated from Azusa Pacific University he built a successful career in the food service industry while he and his wife, Doreen, raised their family of three beautiful daughters. During that time Demetrius served as an active layperson, then unpaid ministry staff, and then as a bi-vocational pastor, but always felt the call of God on his life to serve full-time. After earning his Masters degree from Southern California School of Ministry, Demetrius transitioned to full-time ministry serving in the local church and in state ministry.  Read More>>>

Looking for 3W-Ohio CHOG Partners

The State of Ohio Mission Team is thrilled to announce our partnership with the Three Worlds (3W) Europe/Middle East team of Global Strategy of the Church of God, to invest in the Church of God in Arco, Italy! Would you join us in investing in the work that God is doing in the Arco congregation? We are looking for 27 giving units (churches, individuals or groups) who are ready to partner for the next two years to assist in the work of the Arco Church of God, by giving $100 per month.
This investment of $100 per month would cover adequate resources to pay the rent for the Arco pastors, Nicola and Berta Lovaglio, support the move toward the establishment of Trentino Alto Adige Ministry Center (a Christian community youth center), and would support the development of Arco as a hub of youth ministry training for the Church of God in the Europe and Middle East region.

FORGE 1-Day Conference, Middletown, OH
Rethinking the Church, The Way of Incarnational Mission

FORGE America will be holding a conference at the Briel Church in Middletown, OH on Saturday, May 14, 2016. Forge will hold breakout sessions on May 13th as well. Featured Speakers for the Saturday event are Hugh Halter, US Director of FORGE America and Brad Briscoe, Church Planting Catalyst for a network of Baptist churches in Kansas City on their North American Missions Board.

From the FORGE website:
The Church & Culture in the West is under incredible change. Social/political/financial nuances continue to make the idea of engaging culture and building church a head scratcher. What is needed is a ‘missionary’ people committed to live and lead in the incarnational way of Jesus. This "Good News" will work but the leaders of this future church must understand:

  • The Kingdom of God instead the kingdom of church
  • The Gospel DNA that anyone can live
  • The most transferrable church structure of the ‘missionary community’
  • What is Church and how does God build it?
  • How to apprentice missionary leaders instead of pandering to consumers
  • How to champion modern day trappists: The New BIVO option for leaders & Laity. *Where leaders spend time for the greatest influence
  • How people actually come to Jesus: The ancient way of incarnational evangelism

News from Around Ohio

Breiel Blvd Church in Middletown
Moves Out to Serve

Then Jesus poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded (John 13:5).  The congregation of Breiel Blvd. Church of God followed our Lord’s example by beginning the celebration of the resurrection through serving their ministry partners and their community.  The weekend before Easter began with communion and prayer for the various serve opportunities that would take place the following day as the volunteers “Moved Out” into the Middletown Community.  Read More>>>

The Chillicothe First Church of God and Pastor Matt Roe were this year's recipients of the Ross County Community Impact Achievement Award for the FIVELoaves Ministry that was birthed and managed by the congregation. FIVELoaves Ministry is a great program designed to feed the hungry and under-served in the Chillicothe community. Congratulations and Thanks for being a Church that serves her community with both the Gospel and groceries.

The church and the Brown’s are looking forward to writing a new chapter in the life of this congregation and invite the Church to join them in asking God’s favor on this season of ministry.

Regional Midwest Meeting 2016
In July of 2015, the General Assembly of the Church of God voted to affirm a proposal presented at the General Assembly meeting that the Church of God Convention would meet in odd numbered years going forward, with regional meetings during the even numbered years, to encourage a larger regional participation. These regional meetings will take place across the United States and will be organized and carried out by the Church of God Ministries national staff. Each regional meeting will have the same speakers and worship leaders, as well as the same conference focus. The Midwest Regional Convention will be held June 21-23 at Madison Park Church of God in Anderson, IN. Each Convention will be paired with a “CHOG Table,” which will be a discussion forum to address the important issues of our time.
