FORGE 1-Day Conference, Middletown, OH
Rethinking the Church, The Way of Incarnational Mission

FORGE America will be holding a conference at the Briel Church in Middletown, OH on Saturday, May 14, 2016. Forge will hold breakout sessions on May 13th as well. Featured Speakers for the Saturday event are Hugh Halter, US Director of FORGE America and Brad Briscoe, Church Planting Catalyst for a network of Baptist churches in Kansas City on their North American Missions Board.

From the FORGE website:
The Church & Culture in the West is under incredible change. Social/political/financial nuances continue to make the idea of engaging culture and building church a head scratcher. What is needed is a ‘missionary’ people committed to live and lead in the incarnational way of Jesus. This "Good News" will work but the leaders of this future church must understand:

  • The Kingdom of God instead the kingdom of church
  • The Gospel DNA that anyone can live
  • The most transferrable church structure of the ‘missionary community’
  • What is Church and how does God build it?
  • How to apprentice missionary leaders instead of pandering to consumers
  • How to champion modern day trappists: The New BIVO option for leaders & Laity. *Where leaders spend time for the greatest influence
  • How people actually come to Jesus: The ancient way of incarnational evangelism

News from Around Ohio

Rev. George L. Reed

It is with sadness mingled with joy that we inform you of the passing of Pastor George L. Reed from this life to his eternal home. Pastor Reed was a spiritual giant and leader among us throughout his ministry. Our condolences and prayers for comfort extend to Sister Ruth and the family as well as the Hillside Church.

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Psalm 116:15.

Rev. George L. Reed

Rev. George Reed silently but victoriously left this world to claim his eternal reward on February 8, 2016. He was the eighth of ten children born to Howard and Fanny Smith Reed in Harrisburg, Illinois. He began preaching when he was 17 years old. After serving in the army during the Korean War, he graduated from Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana. After graduating he attended the Anderson School of Theology. His first pastoral assignment was as pastor of youth at the Maiden Lane Church of God in Springfield, Ohio. Following that assignment he went to Fairborn where he spent 20 years establishing and building a new church. His call and acceptance to become senior pastor of the Hillside Ave Church of God in Springfield came in 1977, a position from which he retired in 1992. During those years he held various offices on the local state and national level. In retirement he served as interim for five different churches and taught a senior Sunday School Bible class for many years.

He met and married Joyce Ruth Foster on June 25, 1955. God blessed them with three wonderful children: Rev. Alan Reed (Diane), Retha Stork (Keith), and Dr. Eric Reed (Grace). Alan died unexpectedly in October, 2015. They have nine grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Rev. Reed has one surviving sister, Ruth Mugge, and one brother, Donald Reed of Harrisburg, IL. He loved his family dearly and took joy in all they did. Fishing in Canada and woodworking were his greatest hobbies. He was an avid student and reader all his life.

Regional Midwest Meeting 2016
In July of 2015, the General Assembly of the Church of God voted to affirm a proposal presented at the General Assembly meeting that the Church of God Convention would meet in odd numbered years going forward, with regional meetings during the even numbered years, to encourage a larger regional participation. These regional meetings will take place across the United States and will be organized and carried out by the Church of God Ministries national staff. Each regional meeting will have the same speakers and worship leaders, as well as the same conference focus. The Midwest Regional Convention will be held June 21-23 at Madison Park Church of God in Anderson, IN. Each Convention will be paired with a “CHOG Table,” which will be a discussion forum to address the important issues of our time. For registration, lodging and programming information, head over to the Church of God Ministries website, www.jesusisthesubject.org.
