2017 Minister's Spring Refresher
March 2

9:30 am - 3:30 pm

Dr. Cliff Sanders, MACU School of Ministry chair and author of The Optimism of Grace: A Treatise on the Theology of Wesley, will be leading us in a day of apologetic study and thought from a Wesleyan-Arminian theological perspective. Why a day devoted to apologetics? In a recent research by David Kinnaman and the Barna Group, researchers concluded,

At the end of the study, young people from churches that excelled at reasonable, objective answers to their questions had much better spiritual outcomes. They were much more likely to have made a personal faith commitment and be actively engaged in the Christian faith. And they were much less likely to have doubts about God or to describe themselves as atheists, agnostics or nonreligious.

Pastors and church leaders need to have good handles on what we believe as a Bible based Church Movement. Join us for a powerful day to explore the basic tenets of our faith.

A word often used when seeking to rally the troops to bring order out of chaos and or, increased performance when disagreements and individualism threatens the group or organization.
The month of February is a reminder to humanity that the power of and commitment to Unity can accomplish the impossible and achieve the invincible. As a nation, we celebrate this month observing Black History. The contributions of African Americans to our nation goes well beyond what I can write in this article. The recent movie, Hidden Figures, about the contributions of African American Females to the NASA program, is a reminder to all of us of what we have accomplished in the past and can accomplish in the future when we not only embrace our diversity, but also welcome each other’s input. Read MORE

News from the Governing Board
On January 30, 2017 the board regretfully accepted the resignation of the Governing Board and Ohio General Assembly Chair, Rev. Randy Montgomery. The resignation is immediate to coincide with Rev. Montgomery’s resignation as pastor at the New Covenant Church in Middletown. Per the bylaws, the vice-chair, Rev. Steve Rauch, pastor at Pleasant Chapel Church of God, Lancaster, becomes our interim chair.
Dr. Cottrell said of Randy’s departure, "We will surely miss Randy’s presence on the board. We are a stronger state ministry because of Randy’s leadership.Though we are saddened by the loss of his leadership, we pray God’s blessings on him, his family, and his ministry. We are thankful, however, that Steve Rauch is prepared and willing to step into this position to continue leading us forward."

Camp Marengo 2017 prep has begun! We’ve already begun the hiring process and are finishing interviews now. The theme this summer is home. We are exploring how the early church supported each other and how those various attributes of the early church can help shape our relationships today.
We are also excited to offer a new internship opportunity for high school students 16+. Students will come and camp for 1 week, counsel for 3 weeks, and have a summer staff experience for 2 weeks. During the internship, students will gain counseling skills through workshops, meet with college admissions counselors from some Christian colleges, and upon completion of the summer internship, will receive a letter of recommendation from both the Camp Director and State Pastor!
Camp registration is also now open! This year we opened up registration earlier than normal to allow a discounted early bird price for those who register before March 29! Registration can be completed entirely online HERE (
We are praying for you and your students and hope to see you this summer!

       Alan and Jess Smith

Join the broader church once again this year in educating and empowering local congregations in the fight against human trafficking. We encourage you to respond to the needs of your community and plan an initiative to launch on March 5. Perhaps it’s a supply or fund drive to help your local foster-parent organization, mentoring programs, or a special offering to support one of trafficklight partners in your area or on the other side of the world (Pink Door, OneHeart Dayton, Church on the Street, Stripped Love).
