Christmas Greetings from the staff at Ohio Ministries!
"Coming Together" by Demetrius Booker, Associate State Pastor of Church Health
What a month, Elections, Thanksgiving and Football mixed with conflict and disagreements! Can someone say, November?

I know, it is hard to be thankful when your political issue(s) do not prevail or your preferential politician/ football team does not win! For many, this year the issues seem to be more personal and the price of losing more costly. As people of faith, what do we do? Not simply to make ourselves feel better, but rather what do we do to help those to whom we serve, move on with hope?

So how do we come together? How do we unify our families, friends, neighbors, churches and our nation?...Read more

Congratulations to the following Churches and their Pastors for taking on Ohio Ministries $12 Challenge! This challenge seeks to address the need for congregational support that our local churches give to fund the various youth, camp meeting, church planting, credentialing, coaching and church transformation activities.

Your congregational or individual support ensures we will be able to support the ministries above throughout the coming year.

New Supporters reporting since our November Challenge …

  • Cedarville First Church – Elton Moose
  • Circleville Church – Pastor Lynn Summers
  • First Community, Ashtabula – Harold Morgan
  • South Lebanon – Pastor Steve Bowman
  • Lancaster Church – Pastor Bill Means
Challenge Testimonial
Demetrius, when you came to our SE District meeting and shared with us I enjoyed your presentation but I was convicted by your challenge to go back to the congregation I pastor and ask them to try to give at least $12 a week ($624. a year) to Ohio Ministries. Because of the economic downturn our leadership had not been sending much at all to state ministries for the last few years although that did not reflect the norm for our church.  I had felt bad about that but there was little I could do.
In our November Elders meeting I presented your $12 proposal to them. After much discussion, they included the $12 Challenge in our 2017 proposed budget. Ours is not a large congregation but if every congregation of the Church of God in Ohio would give at least that level just think of the fantastic ministry we could do together!

Xenia Church Hosts Annual Appreciation Service
Dr. Walls presenting Award of Appreciation to Drs. Christopher and Esther Cottrell

East Second Street Church of God in Xenia has a tradition at Thanksgiving time to reach out to their community, serving a traditional Thanksgiving meal on the Sunday before Thanksgiving as well as give out 200 turkeys to those in need in the community. This year was no exception. With a packed Family Life Center, the congregation served up a beautiful and delicious meal for all after the morning worship.
Then in the afternoon service, Rev. Charles Johnson of Sharon, PA, brought a great message of praise and thanksgiving. During the afternoon worship Rev. Dr. Douglas Walls presented Awards of Appreciation to five recipients, an annual presentation from the congregation to persons selected for their service to the Church. Some of the past recipients are: Dr. & Mrs. James Earl Massey; Bishop Timothy and First Lady Clytemnestra Clarke; Bishop Robert and First Lady Dr. Maggie Culp; Pastor Abraham Jeter; Dr. Charles Myricks; and Rev. Vernon Maddox. This year’s selections were Sis. Fay Ames, a member of the congregation; Rev. Charles and First Lady Crystal Johnson; and Drs. Christopher and Esther Cottrell.

New Covenant Church Reaches Out to Community at Christmas

Pastor Randy Montgomery of the New Covenant Church in Middletown reported that over 300 families from our community were served with a hearty breakfast, met Santa, and experienced the Nativity.  Additionally, warm clothes were given to the children, then children were offered the opportunity to pick out presents for their parents while their parents were “shopping” in another room for their children. Pastor Randy said, “I just had to brag on our Tribe a little. . . . We partnered with an elementary school in Middletown that has under privileged children. Bonnie Newell, who teaches there, connected us. Forgive me for bragging on the saints but they reflected the Light well today.”

2016 Ohio State Youth Convention Highlights
The lobby at Maiden Lane Church of God in Springfield bustled with excitement as teens and their leaders gathered for a weekend of fun, networking, and spiritual challenge at the 2016 Ohio State Youth Convention. This year’s convention was jam-packed with awesome worship led by the popular band, I Am They, challenging messages clearly spoken by Eric Samuel Timms and resident graphic artist, Joe Watkins, was on stage to capture the messages. The students had lots of fun at the ice rink, and pizza . . . lots of pizza was shared among friends and groups. Most importantly, multiple students reported first time commitments to be a Christ-follower, many others reported discipleship growth and renewal. A review of the talks in sketch note form is below.
Traditionally, the youth convention has been held in a convention hall or hotel but this year the Student Ministries Team dared to try something new: hold it at a church. Maiden Lane Church graciously agreed to the experiment which meant changing the stage, moving the time of their Sunday morning service, moving the service to the gym, giving hundreds of hours in labor to create an awesome set and serve as hosts for the convention. The response from conventioneers was an enthusiastic approval. Some of the youth have even asked their youth pastors when their church could host a convention.
A special thanks to Senior Pastor Mark Martin and Student Ministries Pastors Tim Riley and Missy Potts for leading their church in this “great experiment.”

The Iglesia de Dios Nueva Esperanza is a Spanish language church that was planted in 2015 in partnership with their mother church, Iglesia de Dios Nueva Esperanza in Cincinnati (Pastor Ercides Estrada), the First Church of God in Miamisburg (Pastor Roy Maxwell), and Ohio Ministries.
