NEW GIS data - the California School Campus Database
Release date for CPAD 2016b and CCED 2016 is December 15th

California School Campus Database

After years of hard work by many GreenInfo staff, we are pleased to announce the release of the California School Campus Database (CSCD). We are also keeping busy with the upcoming releases of CPAD and CCED on December 15, 2016.

The comprehensive polygon GIS data set for all public schools in California is available for download. Drawing from the California Department of Education’s public school list, 10,284 public schools are defined, covering all 58 counties and all registered charter schools.

Using an Esri file geodatabase format, the database is designed for many uses. In addition to individual K-12 public school locations, university campus locations and recently closed schools are available as supplemental feature classes.

Schools data in action (coming soon)

The first official use of CSCD will soon be made public. The California Community Health Assessment Tool (CCHAT) provides statistics, reports, and an interactive map to analyze the sale of tobacco products near schools. The site provides demographics, data downloads, and PDF report generation. GreenInfo Network developed the site for the Stanford Prevention Research Center, funded by a grant from the Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program.

The release of CSCD would not have been possible without the generous support of the Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program.

Special thanks to the staff with the Stanford Prevention Research Center: Lisa Henriksen, Trent Johnson, Nina Schleicher, and Erin Duterte.

All GreenInfo staff contributed to the database. Special recognition to Gina Rosa Cova, Laura Daly, and Jessica Karste. Amanda Recinos is our database manager. Greg Allensworth and Tim Sinnott are our web developers. Detailed reviews by Maianna Voge, Larry Orman, and Dan Rademacher were essential in guiding a successful first release.

CSCD was developed using Esri software under the Conservation Program.
