Fall 2015 Bulletin

President's Message

Summer is coming to a close, and as the kids go back to school, many of our practitioners are planning comprehensive fall engagement processes. To support this work IAP2 BC continues its networking and learning series Beyond the Open House.

To date in 2015 IAP2 BC has presented events in Vancouver and also on Vancouver Island. For those members from around the Province we have been recording our Annual Series “Beyond the Open House” events and posting them online to share learning.

On April 28th we co-presented a networking event with members on the Island that featured Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps and her staff team speaking about engagement strategy and budget processes.

On May 5th we hosted a panel discussion in partnership with Planning Institute of BC about Emotion and Outrage in planning scenarios. See: Beyond the Open House.

This fall we are planning several more events. Mark your calendar for Oct 8th in Vancouver as we will be presenting an event: called "Beyond the Open House: A Primer on Community Engagement for Architects and Engineers.”

The BC Chapter’s AGM is on Nov 19th and there is no better time than an AGM to talk about what works and what does not!  IAP2 BC’s Fail Fest on Nov 19th celebrates the role failure plays in moving organizations to change. Join your colleagues for a glass of wine or beer, appetizers and a conversation that is sure to inspire, inform and ultimately change the way P2 practitioners perceive failure in our sector.
You can also view a 2014 video on getting past the usual suspects in public participation.

This year the IAP2 National Conference was in Portland September 9-11. It was wonderful to see many our members at the conference.

Join us on October 8

Join colleagues for this wine and cheese meet & greet. James Cheng (James K. Cheng, Architects), Ray Wolfe (Stantec Architecture), and Paul Wilting (Metro Vancouver) will share stories from the field about consultation experience. Then, participate in a group discussion.

We'll socialize, network, and figure out how to make community engagement more fun and useful.

Come and share your P2 experiences on architecture and engineering projects, and share this events with your architect and engineer colleagues!
