A Concept to Embrace
Storytelling --It’s a term thrown around as much as Millennials recently, but one not entirely understood or executed correctly. This somewhat recent Chronicle of Philanthropy article discussed the different ways that organizations are moving back to the ancient art of storytelling in lieu of discussing quantitative successes.
But it's not easy. Storytelling means different things to different people. Good stories are subjective and it’s hard to give up all those facts and figures. Both the Rockefeller Foundation and the Meyer Foundation/Georgetown University have both devoted resources to the subject, outlining how traditional storytelling techniques can help NGOs both with their programmatic and fundraising efforts.
