The first documented hop cultivation was in 736, in the Hallertau region of present-day Germany. In celebration of this we're bringing two worlds together with this year's HopNog®. Using two of the newest additions to the German hop family, Mandarina Bavaria and Hull Melon, which impart citrus and honeydew tones, we're creating an American style IPA with a German twist. This Germerican IPA has a medium malty sweetness courtesy of American liquid malt extract and German specialty grains that is well balanced by generous additions of these unique German hops, for an IPA flavor profile unlike any you've ever experienced. Here's to the best of both worlds, cheers!
This year's HopNog® kits include a HopNog® Koozie to keep your brew cold while bragging to your friends about the great beer you made! We're also including a recipe for grilled Berkshire porkchops over a butternut squash puree topped with an apricot rosemary glaze with fried spinach to pair with your HopNog®. This will truly impress your family and friends!

Tuscany! One of the most beautiful places on Earth filled with art, amazing food and wines that are celebrated around the world. Aligned in latitude with Niagara Falls' Great Lake area, this area sees warm summer days and cool nights from breezes blowing in from the Mediterranean. Wine has been produced in this area since the 8th century B.C., with 80% of the growing area dedicated to red grape varietals.
Super Tuscans are proof that winemakers are also rebels in their own right. In the appellation of Chianti, where rules limited winemakers to certain grape varietals and practices in order to warrant official status, in the 1970s a few winemakers decided to break the rules and make wines that they decided were of superior quality, and disregarded the limitations. Coined "Super Tuscan", this full-bodied wine consists of Cabernet Sauvignon and the native Sangiovese, and has firm tannins, notes of cherry and currant and a long finish.

Lake County, California
Northern California has some of the oldest vineyards on the west coast, with Spanish Missionaries planting back in the 18th century. Today, the sunny rolling hills of the Lake County are moderated by the cool waters of Clear Lake, the oldest lake in North America. With all of this history, the land is ideally suited for growing a variety of grapes.
The three grapes that make up this blend are distinct characters indeed. Chardonnay is the popular and adaptable friend with apple and melon characteristics. Chenin Blanc reflects the soil well in its chalk and citrus aromatics, while its acidity anchors its structure down on the palate. Finally, lady Muscat with her wildly perfumed nose and distinctive "grapey" flavor gives the blend a refreshingly fun and juicy addition.

Mosel Valley, Germany
Grown in abundance on the very steep slopes of the Mosel River Valley, the Riesling grape thrives and is celebrated as the great grape of Germany. The location is the absolute northern limit for grape vineyards of this type, but the most south facing slopes of the valley give the perfect amount of warmth and sunlight to make a magnificent Riesling grape for wine.
The Riesling grape naturally does better in a cooler climate, with its forward acidity and the ability it gives to balance the sweetness. The wine will have noticeable flavors of lemons, apple and limestone with a tangy kick that finishes nicely into a light sweetness blending into perfection.

Yakima Valley, Washington
The Yakima Valley is Washington's coolest and oldest wine region. Near Mount Adams and watered by the Yakima River, the micro climate provides the perfect growing conditions for Bordeaux's (Meritage) three most awarded grapes to ripen to perfection. Washington is on the radar of the world for its excellent agriculture and it is quickly being recognized for its excellent vineyards.
This amazing wine is a blend of the big three, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. A classic blended structure that celebrates the traditional great wines of past, lending each grapes strengths to the wine. The Cabernet Sauvignon comes with its firm tannins and aromas of cassis and black currant. The Cabernet Franc injects its spice, peppery nose and red fruit undertones. The Merlot rounds the bright potent qualities of the other grapes out with plum, cherry, and a rounder body to soften the wine slightly. A classic blend time tested and true.

Riverland, South Australia
The warm sunny Riverland has the ideal growing conditions to produce some of the world's best Shiraz and Viognier grapes. Running water of the Murray River gives the roots just enough water in the sunny climate. The world has been witness to some of the best Shiraz and Viognier wines coming from this area. Take advantage of making a wine from these great grapes.
The strong spicy tannic red grape, Shiraz is softened to the palate with the robust white grape Viognier. You will enjoy a bouquet of aroma and taste with black cherry, smokey, plum, black pepper from the Shiraz and slight wisps of exotic jasmine flower, ripe apricot and peach from the Viognier.
