What's Happening
This Sunday is Community Group Sunday, so Pastor Phil will be encouraging everyone to get involved for his sermon. Each group meets once a month for good conversation, mutual support, and a healthy dose of laughter and general good-times. There's no book studies, no homework, just normal folks going through life together. For most of the remainder of 2020, all groups will meet as a Virtual Community Group, meeting once a month via ZOOM. Our hope is that sometime in the next few months we'll be able to start meeting in homes and in-person groups across our local area. Ask to join one of our three groups by clicking here.  We will soon be starting two or three new groups, too, as the ones we have are almost at capacity, so please let us know if you would be interested in leading or participating in a new group, instead!

Last week!  Congregations for Kids Back to School Supply Drive
  • Picture the yellow school bus box that appears in the entrance area of the church every summer.
  • Picture it full of checks made out to our church or Congregations for Kids, or all those on-line donations that happen out there on the web somewhere.
  • Picture 2,073 kids getting much-needed back-to-school supplies all packaged up nicely for them on the first day of school.
  • Picture their parents relieved that they didn't have to spend that money from the funds that are spread too thin these days.
  • Now, make all those pictures a reality and donate to our annual Back to School Supply Drive! All donations due to the church this Sunday, August 9th. No supplies this year, please, just monetary donations.
Donate today!  THANKS!

FUMCB Book Group
The next meeting of the FUMCB Book Group will be Wednesday, August 19th, at 3 pm via Zoom. The topic for the August meeting will be “homelessness”.  Read any book of your choice on the topic of homelessness, such as Richard LeMieux’s book, “Breakfast at Sally’s”. If you are planning to join the discussion, please email Darlene P. If you have questions, please email Darlene H or Phyllis B.
At the beginning of the pandemic we changed the security codes at church.  There is a Trustee/staff code and a  general code.  Two codes were created to keep people out of the building until it is again safe to gather together.  Please don't try to get in without the new code and please don't use the Trustee/staff code unless you are on Trustees or staff.  THANKS!
In September we will be sending out Sunday texts with links and information about our Sunday rhythm  for that day to everyone in our congregation for whom we have a mobile phone number.  If you don't want to receive texts, please email Aya and we'll make sure to opt out for you.

Members and friends of our congregation, and even some neighbors, have been busy fixing up the landscaping at our church since the pandemic got us all to “stay home, stay healthy”. Several areas of the church have been cleared of weeds and mulched, bushes have been trimmed, the garden has been planted as well as many flowers.  The biggest change, though, is to the back corner of our parking lot where we once had a landslide of dirt onto the road below and how have stairs coming up from the cul de sac below so neighbors can come and go more easily.  Many of our neighbors like to use the parking lot as a short cut on their evening walks and the children like riding their bikes there, especially now that it is unusually empty!  Thanks especially to James J., Steve P., and Dick K.
For Your Prayers
