Here's why data on LGBTQ communities matters
View this email in your browser
2020 could have been the year that questions about sexual orientation and gender identity were included in the US Census. The Trump administration has made sure this won’t happen. We want you to know that at AVP, you always count.

Here’s why data matters:
  • We can’t end violence without knowing about it. If we don’t know how many LGBTQ people exist in the US, we can’t know how many are impacted by violence.
  • Numbers are how resources get allocated. If the government assumes that the LGBTQ population is small, they won’t allocate resources.
  • Actions to stop data collection on our communities sends the message that we aren’t worth counting.
At AVP, who you are and the stories you have to tell always matter. We track hate violence locally and nationally to make sure your voices are heard. Give now to support important data collection.

P.S. No matter what anyone says, you will always count to us. Help us make sure that we can continue to collect vital data on our communities.
