NHLBI Director Gary H. Gibbons, MD announces New Strategic Vision for Next Decade of Heart, Lung, Blood, and Sleep Research
"More than a year ago, I asked the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) community to pause and imagine a world where we are able to prevent or cure heart, lung, and blood diseases and the enormous burdens associated with them; a world where we are able to capture the promise of predictive health, preventive care, and precision medicine." Following this momentous Strategic Visioning process that inspired nearly 4,500 members of the community from all 50 states and 42 countries to participate, the NHLBI has outlined how it intends, through the Vision’s research priorities, to accelerate our journey toward scientific and health advances around four main goals:
- Understand human biology
- Reduce human disease
- Advance translational research
- Develop workforce and resources
