Habitat Happenings - May 2016

Our build is progressing rapidly, thanks to your contributions and the efforts of many of our nearly 200 volunteers. You might still become our partner family, or suggest it to someone you know. If you are interested, please call the office.  We encourage people to apply. Even if you miss this house, there will be another! Also, perhaps you might consider making an additional donation today, or giving now instead of at year-end. The need for affordable housing is great, and we cannot meet our mutual goals without financial help from donors. Read on for what's happening at Habitat. For continuous updates, see our website, our Facebook page, or our ReStore "new items" listings.

You are always welcome to stop in or call the Affiliate: (845) 340-0907 Hours: Wed-Fri 10-3, or the ReStore: (845) 853-7499 Hours: Wed-Sat 10-5.

Thank you for your continued support!

Christine Brady LaValle, Executive Director

Ins and outs of the ReStore
If you have shopped the ReStore, you may have wondered -- How did that big furniture get here? How can I get that home? How can I donate my larger items? The answer is the same to all three questions. Meet Bert, Bubba, Candy and Tim [photo above]. Candy is our donations contact point. She schedules deliveries, donation pickups and efficient routes for the on-the-road team. Habitat's team does pickup (free) and delivery (for a fee) for both incoming and outgoing items. They also help get those larger items in your car. Using two trucks, our careful, pleasant team will help you out. It is the way we re-purpose larger donations, which support the Ulster County Habitat mission of affordable housing for all. So next time one of those three questions comes up, remember -- the ReStore transportation team!

PS Sometimes, our truck is too big to be cost-efficient. We are looking for a donation of a smaller, reliable truck, too!
Thanks to...
Our many volunteers. Grace Church for painting our entire house in one day! Dr Blacktop (Kingston) for patching the parking lot entrance at the ReStore. Reformed Church of New Paltz for landscaping at one of the Habitat build homes...and many more groups and individuals!.
Please note: The ReStore will be closed on Saturday, May 28th, 2016.
Thank you Barbara!
Barbara Kortrey (greeting a volunteer), long-time UCHFH Board member, has been acting as full-time volunteer coordinator since 2013. She'll be leaving the volunteer coordinator position on June 1, but we are happy to say she will remain on the board. Barbara's contribution has been a great one, well-described in her own words, "Working together, strangers become friends and friends invite other friends to take part in the fun!  The work gets done, the hours mount up, individuals suggest new possibilities and increase our opportunities to do more." That seems to say it all. If you volunteer, take a chance to stop in and say thank you. Our new volunteer coordinator will be announced shortly.
We are Habitat! Visit the web site to see personal statements from our volunteers.
Please help. Our "Donate now" button will take you to the web site, and you may then mail a donation, or donate online. Thank you.
