A bi-monthly source of positive energy and
information for the village of Sayulita, Mexico

Friday, October 16th, 2015
From the Editor's Desk:

Happy Friday!

We got a little rain last night, which was the first time in about two weeks. The days have been bright and sunny, but still quite hot. It's the perfect time to go on a tour to the Marieta Islands and enjoy a day in the water or do any water related activity.

Two weeks from today, on Friday, October 30th, the Mercado del Pueblo will open for the season. Read more about this market and how it got its start below in the interview with Lina Weissman.

Most of the restaurants that had closed for part of the summer have reopened for business. People are starting to return to Sayulita for the high season and many more will be returning in the next few weeks. I look forward to seeing many familiar faces and catching up with those of you that are returning.

Thank you for reading this edition of El Sayulero,

Making a Positive Change in Sayulita: Lina Weissman

Lina Weissman and her husband, Mitch, traveled all over Mexico for approximately 20 years before finding Sayulita. Once they did, which was about 15 years ago, they were hooked. They have now been full time residents for eight years and love every minute of it. They chose to move here the first year that Costa Verde International School (CVIS) opened, as it provided an education for their then 8-year-old son.  Immediately, Lina got involved in this new and innovative school, which provided a bilingual and bicultural community to their family. After having such a positive experience volunteering at CVIS, Lina was able to branch out and get involved in other parts of the Sayulita community.

Write Right! Bilingual
Translations and Proofreading

Rene Lopez Guerrero and his family came to Sayulita in April. Rene heads up the Hola Sayulita! Spanish Language program at CVIS.  Early on he realized a need for an established Spanish-English translation and proofreading service, and formed Write Right!

Our purpose is to aid in bridging the gap in communication, and facilitate the evolution of a bilingual community. One consequence of poorly written content is that it can be detrimental to an image, though it goes unnoticed by its author. It’s a negative distraction. We assure translating and conveying the message of your purpose with accuracy, as you intend it to be, with coherency and cultural awareness. It’s fundamental. Caution: Google Translate simply strings words together and doesn’t cut it,” shared Rene.

Narayani Cassini Making

A Tour to the Marieta
Islands with Mi Chaparrita

Sunday afternoon was one of those days where the sky was clear, the sun was shining, and the salt from the ocean water could be tasted in the air. The surfers were out in full force, taking advantage of the huge waves, while children and their families laughed and played in the water. It was 2:00 p.m. and my friend, Camilla Fuchs, and I sat in a panga just off the shore of the main beach in Sayulita. Our captain, Gabriel, and our tour guide, Javier, both with Mi Chaparrita, held on to the panga, waiting to take off between wave sets. After a few minutes, we took off towards the Marieta Islands, an amazing breeze blowing our hair and clothes.
