Sweet Dreams Project: Celebrating Success and Gearing Up
for the New Year

This past month we joined with Carolyn and Fernando Lazaro and others at Libreria Sayulita to help with a new project they began this fall, called, "Sweet Dreams." The project, modelled after a long running project in San Miguel, uses recycled plastic bags to stuff cloth mattress covers. This process creates lightweight, durable and comfortable children's mattresses that simply hang up on a wall when not in use. Of course, it also recycles plastic bags that may otherwise be blowing around the pueblo. It's a win - win situation.

Best Of Sayulita: 2014

Last week to vote!!!
Winners announced in next El Sayulero

Latitude 20 Sayulita

The concept of Latitude 20 Sayulita developed as Eileen Loftus and Dennis Johnson realized that all of their favorite places to travel were on Latitude 20. "It was because of the food," shared Eileen. The menu items at this restaurant were then developed based on culinary styles along Latitude 20, focusing on a fusion of Mexican, Caribbean, and Asian. One will see the influence of Thailand, Vietnam, Hawaii, Jamaica, Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, and of course, Mexico, in the selection of food. Some dishes from these regions can always be found on the menu, while others you will find as specials.

Sushi Delivered to Your Door with Sayulita Sushi Delivery

Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Sayulita Sushi Delivery makes Sayulita locals and tourists happy with fresh, flavorful sushi. Halo Weiss, and her husband, Arturo De La Fuente, prepare the innovative food at Revolucion #4, across from the fire department. It is then available for pick up or delivered with speed to their customers. Halo and Arturo sit down with El Sayulero and tells us more about Sayulita Sushi Delivery.

Sayulita Dive and Surf Interview

Sebastian Briones is the owner of Sayulita Dive and Surf, which he began in 2012, deciding to start his own business after years of working for other large dive companies. He spoke to El Sayulero about his business, the importance of his recent PADI scuba diving certification, what diving near Sayulita has to offer, and his plans for the future.

ATV Tour with Mi Chaparrita

After brief instruction, I hopped on the red ATV, donning a red helmet, looking quite stylish, I might add. I pulled into line behind our guide, Miguel Ventura, and Nadia Mahmud, from Chicago.  Alyssa Pohahau, Lenny Burdette, and Jack Danger Canty, all from San Francisco, filed in behind me. Being my first time driving an ATV, I felt excited and a little nervous, visible by my death grip on the handles, as we followed Miguel towards the jungle on an ATV tour with Mi Chaparrita.

A Special Note from Rollie Dick

Dear Sayulita Friends

As you know, Rollie’s Restaurant is for sale. The sale includes the business, the land, the living quarters on the second and third floor, all licenses, (Including a full liquor license.) recipes, and all furniture and equipment. Since everything is there, it is truly a “turn-key” operation. You open the door and it is ready to go. Also, Rollie would be willing to come down and spend as much time as needed to bring the new owners up to speed on the operation as well as maybe some advice on staffing. The land is fully regularized for ownership.

We really thought it would sell quickly. It has become a landmark and one of the better-known restaurants in Mexico. It was a wonderful “retirement” for Jeanne and me and provided us with a nice income as well as the opportunity to meet thousands of wonderful people.

Well, it hasn’t sold. We have listed it with several real estate firms with no success. It is not now listed with anyone.

When we first listed it the price was in the million- dollar range. No action. We reduced it to $795,000. No action. We reduced it to $695,000. Some action, no sale.

So, we are ready to entertain offers below that. Are you interested? If so, make us an offer.  Who knows, we might accept it. We really think it is a shame that nobody will be doing Rollie’s this year. It looks like a great year and could be a real moneymaker. Think it over. Let us know if you would like to look at the place.

What is Your Favorite Time of
Day in Sayulita and Why?

Eli Lev Bloomington, Indiana

I like being on the beach when the sun has already set. Most of the tourists have already gone to their hotels, the restaurants have brought in their chairs and umbrellas, the tide is out, and there's a pool of water by the river. The sky is beautiful with shades of pink and orange and there is a sense of calm.
Gustavo Garza-Cantu

Right as the sun rises and I'm loading up the panga to go fishing.
Wendy Walter
Minneapolis, MN

Early morning. Every morning I've been watching the sunrise over the mountains. There's such a stillness, tranquility, and serenity.
Cheryl Vaughan

Every time of the day is good. In the morning, it is quiet and beautiful as the sun shines on the water. Later, there's an energy in the air, and the night is alive and contagious. It's easy to get caught up in the fun.
Spencer Harris

Sunset, because it's epic and the lighting is legit.

Pet of the Week

Hola! My name is Shelly. I'm one of seven pups who was terribly neglected by our human and left us by ourselves for a few weeks. Thanks to a neighbor who was concerned, we were rescued. I am rather mellow, love to snuggle, and determined to be a good girl. People regularly comment on my stunning eyes. If only I would find a home!
