From The Editor's Desk:

Semana Santa starts in just two days and Sayulita is gearing up for the extra people. Pro Sayulita is bringing in Porta Potty's for the beach, hiring traffic wardens to assist the transitos with traffic management, supplying disposable trash cans for the beach, and are supplying supplies to collect trash to JXMP (Juntos Por Mi Pueblo), a new youth initiative toward improving Sayulilta.

Voluntarios Por Sayulita, formerly called Sayulimpia Voluntarios, will also be on the street helping to keep the town clean. They are bringing in another 10 volunteers for Semana Santa. Voluntarios Por Sayulita works year round as volunteers, so if you'd like to leave a donation for them, please do so at ChocoBanana

You'll notice we have two new columns in this issue of El Sayulero. The first, a health and fitness column by Debbie Krejci, owner of I Love Yoga Maya, and the second, a recipe column by Karina Shecter. We're happy to have both these ladies on board.

MAKING A POSITIVE CHANGE IN SAYULITA:

Carolyn Lazaro was born in Virginia, raised in San Diego, California, and has now spent half her life living in Mexico. She and her husband, Fernando, have been coming to Sayulita since 1990, and now call it home the majority of the year, while the rest of the year they live in San Luis Potosí. Two years ago, Carolyn and Fernando started the Sweet Dreams (Dulces Suenos) project here in Sayulita. Carolyn tells El Sayulero more about this project that creates ecologically friendly mattresses for indigenous Mexican children, mainly from Chiapas, who have nowhere to sleep, but the floor. Read More

LA CATRINA RESTAURANT & TEQUILA BAR IN SAYULITA

La Catrina Restaurant & Tequila Bar, located on the North side of Sayulita on Calle Manuel Rodriguez Sanchez, opened on November 13th of last year. This restaurant was named after the iconic figure, La Catrina, who is commonly associated with Mexico and Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).  A larger than life size La Catrina with a colorful skirt and flowers in her hair is situated at the entrance, and small shelves with candles and La Cantrina figurines line one wall, making good on its namesake. Read More

AN INTERVIEW WITH PAPILLON FAMILY STUDIOS, TATTOO & JEWELRY: CHOPS AND TARA PAPILLON

Tara Papillon first came to Sayulita 18 years ago for a women’s surf and yoga retreat hosted by Las Olas, and it changed her life. Over the years, she often thought of Sayulita, never letting the magic she experienced go. So, when she and her husband, Chops, were looking to relocate from the east coast, Sayulita came to mind. Tara and Chops wanted to be by the ocean, the economy was good, and they wanted their children, 10-year-old Hank and 8-year-old June, to attend a quality school. Learning about Costa Verde International School, the deal was sealed, and they sold their house with all of their belongings, and moved to Sayulita in August of 2015. Within a week of their arrival, they found the location for their business, Papillon Family Studios, and they opened for business in December of 2015. Read More

HOW TO KEEP AN EXERCISE ROUTINE
WHILE ON YOUR VACATION IN SAYULITA

It’s great to have a routine when it comes to health and fitness, but when you are on a trip to a place like Sayulita, it may be a challenge.  It’s easy to take in a few extra margaritas and churros, which can lead to returning home several kilos heavier. Read More

I will be sharing with you recipes for appetizers, main dishes, and desserts, with many of the ingredients available here in our Sayulita tiendas. PET OF THE WEEK

Hola, my name is Lucy and I'm a six month old Pitbull. My brother and I were purchased as little pups by a family with two small kids. They played with us and it was fun. Now that we are bigger they don't want us anymore and threw us out on the street. My brother disappeared and I don't know what happened to him. I'm still here looking for a family who would love me for the rest of my life. I really am very sweet, and friendly, and loving, and needless to say, very pretty. Can I stay with you? Contact SayulitAnimals here
