April meeting recap - The Official Meeting

We had a very animated Annual Members Meeting! A bit of business as usual to open the session, a strong brew and some cake, and off we went!

Kara, Victoria, and Laura P2 did a fantastic job with their annual reports, and our traditional Buzzword Bingo saw a lot of Belles win sweets, books, and even a mug! The Dig for Denman Bursary draw went to the wonderful Emily, we look forward to finding out what course she picks and how it goes. Liz C. was the lucky winner of the Cambridge Satchel Company's £150 voucher, you an read more about her visit to the CSC shop in our blog

We also elected a new committee and a new President - read the latest President's Blog entry to find out about who's who in the Committee, plans for the next 12 months, and how to go about giving feedback, suggestions, and ideas.

Thank you everyone that attended, and in particular Yvonne and Shani, brave new Belles that joined us only a few days before this annual meeting and attended without having much idea of what would happen!

Join the Meeting Fairies!

Our brand new Secretary and all round lovely Belle Alice is responsible for ensuring that our meetings are well organised, but she can't do it all herself. We are looking for Belles to volunteer to bring refreshments and help with the general logistics of the meeting.

There are many ways to contribute. You can volunteer to be one of the Fairies bringing treats for each meeting (home-made or shop-bought, it's all fine!). You can also sign up to help with setting up and clearing away our room. It's a quick job that only takes about 10 minutes, and you can sign up for a single meeting or for many.

We are also carrying out a quick survey to find out people's dietary requirements so that we can do our best to ensure that people's needs are catered for as best we can. Please click on the following link to fill in the survey.

Thank you in advance to every Belle for volunteering. The WI is what you make of it, and with everyone's help we are making Blue Belles a group where everyone pitches in!

Coming up next - The Shiny Meeting!

Our May meeting will be full of sparkle, courtesy of Jason Middleton who will give us a talk about gemstones, their history, and what to look for in precious stones.

We will also spend some time discussing this year's resolutions and casting our vote. There are two resolutions for 2016, please take some time to read about them by clicking on the links below, and come to the meeting ready to join the discussion.

2016 Annual Resolutions: Avoid food waste, address food poverty and Appropriate care in hospitals for people with dementia

Appropriate care in hospitals for people with dementia briefing notes

Avoid food waste, address food poverty briefing notes

Do you have any first hand experience with any of the two issues? If you'd like to share your point of view let us by email and we'll add you to the meeting agenda.

The next book club meeting is on April 28th, 19:30, at The Grain & Hop Store on Parker's Piece. We are reading The Lie Tree. Everyone welcome, whether you've read the book or not!
April saw the Belles allotment wake up after the long cold months. Two work days were scheduled and there are many more to come. Get in touch with Laura Pryke if you want to come along, and keep an eye on our private Facebook group for last minute details!
We've been invited to host a tea and cake stall at the Straberries and Creem festival, along with the other WIs in Cambridge.  We're looking for hosts, organisers and bakers. More details are in the Facebook private group, or get in touch by email
