New French Language System Navigator Available at CHIGAMIK
Welcome Celeste Lalonde, CHIGAMIK's new French Language System Navigator
CSC CHIGAMIK CHC is pleased to announce new French Language System (FLS) Navigator services available throughout North Simcoe Muskoka.

Navigating systems can be complicated – health care, mental health and addiction, education, justice, social support systems and more.  And…it’s even harder if you’re looking for these support services in French!
The FLS Navigator will work with you to find French-speaking professionals and community helpers. If you're having difficulties in the areas of health, food, money, housing, education, employment, mental health and more, and you're seeking a connection with others who speak French, please reach out to the FLS Navigator. If we cannot find the services you need in your community, you will be linked with French-speaking professionals using the Ontario Telemedicine Network services.

Quit Cafe Celebration!
Participants of the Quit Café are successful by taking it one day at a time!
Smokers and ex-smokers from the Quit Café program attended the annual Quit Café Celebration at the CHIGAMIK Community Health Centre in Midland on February 2. Since its inception in 2013, the Quit Café program has helped hundreds of participants in their quitting journey.

Guest speaker Angus MacDougall from Orillia gave an interesting testimonial about his struggle and recovery from addiction. Shelly Bowman moved the audience with a few songs accompanied by her electric harp. Awards were also presented for best smoking cessation tip, most inspiring smoking cessation journey, and most motivating participant to other group members. For more information, click here

CHIGAMIK's New Centre for Applied NeuroDance Research
The first of its kind in Canada, the new centre for Applied NeuroDance Research is a collaboration between researchers from York University, staff at CHIGAMIK, and the on-site dance and movement therapist located at CHIGAMIK. The first research study that began in February, 2017, is investigating the ways in which dance therapy can benefit people with chronic pain.  The study looks at changes in neural activity, perception of pain, and overall health and wellbeing. Using non-invasive techniques, researchers will determine what, if any, changes occur over an eight-week period.

CHIGAMIK Dance Therapist Rebecca Barnstaple, presented methods used for this study at Crossroads Interdisciplinary Health Conference at Dalhousie University in Halifax on March 10th.  It is hoped this study, along with others, will help provide important information for health care providers, policy makers, patients and other researchers, to find better ways to treat and manage chronic pain with no adverse side effects.
